Declan is a confident, solid rider, with a heavy sack full of tricks and the guts to go huge. “I’m super stoked to have been put on the most prestigious protection brand in the actions sports world,” he says of joining the TSG crew. “And, I’m looking forward to working with TSG for many years to come and put them at the forefront of safety in these crazy fun sports.” Declan rocks the Dawn Helmet when out on two wheels and says it makes him feel in safe hands when he does bail.
It was Delan’s dad who got him onto two wheels, as he wanted to pass on his passion and skills to his son that he notched up in the 80s. “I loved it immediately,” says Declan, “and have never looked back. He started taking me to competitions at the age of 11 and I always loved competing.” His recent tally of medals include bronze at the European BMX Championships, in Valmiera; silver in the Freestyle World Cup, in 2019 and Olympic bronze in Tokyo. “The Olympic Games was by far the best experience I’ve had through riding a BMX bike,” he states. “It was an unbelievable feeling to be amongst the best athletes in the word and to take a bronze medal was the icing on the cake”. Declan’s home turf is now Adrenaline Alley indoor park and post-Olympics he’s loving riding more than ever: “BMX is honestly everything to me and I feel at home at a skatepark.” There are three years until the next Olympics and a ton of fun to be had for Declan shredding AA and competitions around the world. Our advice is, keep your eyes
peeled for this high flyer from Portsmouth ‘cause he’s got his sights set on Parisian gold.
