Years riding
Nikita found riding BMX when looking for a way to escape teenage anxiety and depression and, in the process, found a big-hearted community with a generous spirit that made none of the demands her first love, football. “BMX means freedom,” beams Nikita. “Freedom to embrace creativity, to travel and experience different cultures, to challenge my body and mind, and most importantly, to have fun!” Nikita also kills it at comps, with silver accolades that include silvers at the World’s and European Champs and Olympic Bronze. “I won’t lie, I get incredibly nervous at competitions, but I love that feeling of having 60 seconds to show what you can do and the adrenaline that comes with it.” With first-hand experience with depression and anxiety Nikita also uses her platform and project MindTricks to help others tackle mental health: “MindTricks want to normalize the conversation around mental health, so that if someone is suffering in silence, they can read our posts, realise they aren’t alone and it’s not a weakness to ask for help.” Every team rider is special to TSG and that’s especially true of Nikita.
