Talk about inspirational: at the age of eight, despite thinking that skateboarding was “just for guys”, Poppy Starr Olson first picked up a skateboard, and she’s been rolling onwards and upwards ever since. Her career path has been phenomenal: winning her first contest aged nine, at 15 she was a world champion and by 16 she had turned pro. Meanwhile, off the ramps she’s equally inspiring, funding her globetrotting skate career by making and selling her art online, and public speaking – she did a TED Talk at age 14 on art and skateboarding. As a proud Bondi Beach local, Poppy’s got her sights set high – she hopes to represent Australia at the Tokyo Olympics, where skateboarding is set to make its debut. And, with Poppy’s unique drive and ambition, come 2020 we can’t help thinking she’ll come home with gold.
